The IDC-CDI announces its total support of Juan Guaidó as the legitimate president of Venezuela

Brussels, 24 January 2019 – In light of the latest developments in Venezuela, the Centrist Democrat International (IDC-CDI) hereby announces its total support of Juan Guaidó as President of the Republic of Venezuela, and calls on all democratic governments and the European Union to back the formation of a transitional government, with a view to organising free elections.

The President of the IDC-CDI and former President of Colombia, Andrés Pastrana: “At the IDC-CDI we unanimously support Juan Guaidó as President of the Republic of Venezuela. Now, more than ever, we must stand by the people of Venezuela in their struggle to restore democracy and freedom. The Maduro regime has only brought hunger, violence, persecution and misery. ”

The Secretary General of the IDC-CDI, Antonio López-Istúriz, insists that the support of governments, institutions and international organisations for Juan Guaidó as President of Venezuela is essential to end years of tyranny and dictatorship in the country. Venezuelans deserve to live in peace, freedom and prosperity. We are working so that the European Union makes its endorsement and recognition of Juan Guaidó official. The people of Venezuela have our unconditional support.”
