    Education: Study of evangelical theory.

    Parish priest from 1980 to 1983. From 1983 to 1990, Civil Service Federal Delegate.

    From 1992 to 1998, Secretary General of Germany’s CDU; from 2001, President of Centrist Democrat International (CDI); from 2002 to 2015, Deputy Chairman of the UDI; from 2002 to 2015, Vice-president of the European People’s Party (EPP).

    Member of the European Parliament since 1990; from January, 1991 to May, 1992, Parliamentary Secretary of State at the Ministry of Women and Youth; from 2005-2013, Parliamentary Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Technology; from 2007 to 2013, Federal Government Coordinator for Aeronautics and Space; from 1998 to 2005, European Spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group; from October 22, 2013, Vice-president of the German Parliament.
