Executive Committee, Yogyokarta (Indonesia) January 23, 2020

The Executive Committee of the Centrist Democrat International (IDC-CDI) met in Yogyokarta (Indonesia) on January 23, 2020 hosted by our member party PKB. The Executive Committee approved 10 resolutions addressing climate change, the main causes of political instability worldwide as well as the potential for relations between Christian Democracy and Humanitarian Islam in order to promote an international order based on democratic values and peaceful coexistence.

During the meeting, a text was approved reaffirming support for the interim President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, and denouncing the attempted coup to prevent his re-election as president of the National Assembly. The resolutions passed also draw attention to the serious violations of Human Rights in both Venezuela and Nicaragua, express concern over the “hate speech” of President López Obrador in Mexico, recognize the new interim president of Bolivia, Jeanine Añez, and condemn the attacks against the democratically elected government in Colombia. The recent terrorist attacks in Africa, the political situation in Armenia and the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia have also been the focus of discussion.

The President of the IDC-CDI and former President of Colombia, Andrés Pastrana, said: “Current challenges demand global solutions. In today’s meeting all parties have agreed to condemn the attempt of the radical left to destabilize the legitimacy of democratically elected governments, through streets riots. That is why we call for the need to return universal ethics and humanitarian values ​​to the center of the world order.”

The Secretary General of the IDC-CDI, Secretary General of the European People’s Party and MEP, Antonio López-Istúriz, stressed: “This meeting in Indonesia has allowed us to know the realities of this country thanks to our member party PKB, which promotes an Islam that defends tolerance, dialogue and respect between religions. An Islam compatible with democracy and peace between civilizations.”

During the meeting, hosted by IDC-CDI Member Party Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (PKB) two conferences were held on the role of Western Christianity and Humanist Islam as well as on the current political and economic development of the Eurasian zone.
