CDI AFRICA. In 2004 a meeting was held in Nouakchott, Mauritania between the then member parties. The goal was to take the first step toward the creation of the African regional political alliance. After several meetings over the next few months, in 2005 in Paris, the Bylaws were approved and CDI Africa was constituted with the support of the International CDI. It was a historic step for the CDI, since Africa had been somewhat forgotten. Africa, the continent of the future, is playing an increasingly prominent role in the CDI, enriching the organization with its contributions. African political parties can also count on CDI Africa's support to further the cause of democracy and freedom on the continent.

CDI EUROPE was founded in 1961 under the name of World Union of Christian Democrats (WUCD). It was created by the New International Teams, predecessor organization to the European Union of Christian Democrats (EUCD), the Christian Democrat Organization of America (CDOA) and the Christian Democratic Union of Central Europe (CDUCE). In 1999 it adopted its present name.
